Terms of Use

Last updated: November 2, 2026

Bridgeside is a place to hold a funeral for a pet, to remember them, and to be near others who have said goodbye to one. It is run by one person, Jinhyuk Jang, a sole proprietor in South Korea ("we"). These terms are the agreement between you and us. By using Bridgeside, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Holding a funeral, making a memorial, visiting and taking part are free. A few optional extras cost credits, as described below.

Who can be here

You need to be 13 or older, whether you have an account or come as a guest through an invitation. Please give your real month and year of birth. Bridgeside is made for adults, and it also welcomes teenagers who have lost a pet.

If you are 13 to 17, some things work differently, to help keep you safe. There are no direct messages, no public chat and no gatherings of any kind, and your tapes can be played only by you. Guestbooks on your memorials start closed, and you can open them. You cannot buy or use credits. Please talk with a parent or guardian about using Bridgeside.

If you are bringing a younger child, they may be with you at a funeral, beside you and on your device. You remain the person using the site, and please do not let them type or enter a name of their own. If we learn a child under 13 is using the site on their own, we will close their access and delete what we can find. If we learn someone is under 18 and the site shows them as an adult, we will change their access.

Adults: please do not seek out, ask the age of, or try to contact anyone you believe is a minor.

Guests and accounts

You can attend funerals and gatherings, walk, talk, light candles, leave flowers and sign guestbooks as a guest. To keep a memorial, host a gathering, send direct messages or buy credits, you sign in with Google.

What you share

Public memorials, their photos and guestbook notes, and public gatherings are open to anyone. A public memorial stands in one of our places, where anyone visiting can find it. Chat is seen by the people in your room. Only share what you are comfortable with others seeing.

You keep whatever rights you have in what you share. You give us permission to store, copy, resize, show and send it to people using Bridgeside, only so that we can run the service. This permission is worldwide and free. It ends when your content is removed, except for backups until they are overwritten, and copies other people have already saved.

When you add something, you are telling us that:

A note on photos: paying for a photo does not always mean you own it. A professional photographer may still hold the rights to a portrait of your pet, so please check before uploading one. If a picture came from the web, please leave it out.

Funerals

You can hold a funeral for your pet, however long ago they passed. A funeral here is a gathering of people on a website. It is not a religious rite performed by clergy, and it does not deal with a pet's remains or any legal matter. The funerals, settings and readings we offer are there to help you remember in your own way. They are not religious guidance, and they do not mean any faith or community has endorsed this site. If something offered is wrong or feels disrespectful, please tell us.

When you hold a funeral, you are its host. Anyone with your invite link can come in, so please share it with care, and remember that it can be passed on. The words you write are yours, and these terms apply to them. You can remove someone from your funeral, and we ask that you use this kindly.

Gatherings

If you are a signed-in adult, you can host a pet-loss gathering. People under 18 cannot host or join one. Hosts are other people who have lost a pet. They are not therapists, and we do not check or train them. Please do not rely on a gathering for medical or mental health care.

If you host:

We do not supervise gatherings, and we are not responsible for what is said in them.

Direct messages

Signed-in adults can send each other direct messages, which are delivered live and not stored. You can turn them off or block someone. If you are reported, recent messages can be attached to the report, as our Privacy page explains.

Cassette tapes

You can keep short recordings of your pet's sounds as cassette tapes. They are for your pet's sounds, not for songs or for other people's voices. When you add a tape, you are also telling us that:

You choose whether visitors can play each tape. If you choose a tape for your memorial's star, anyone who taps the star can play that tape. Each tape stays yours, and the permission in "What you share" also lets us send it to the people you allow to hear it. If you play a tape at a funeral, everyone in the room hears it, so please be sure before you do.

We may disable or remove a tape after a complaint or a report. If a person recorded on a tape asks us to remove it, we may do so without asking you first.

Credits

Some optional extras are paid for with credits. Nothing else here needs them.

Refunds

If the law where you live gives you more than this, you have that too.

Gifts

You can add something to someone else's public memorial as a gift, if you are an adult signed in with an account. Some memorials cannot receive gifts. A gift does not need the owner's agreement first, so the owner of the memorial decides afterwards:

Please do not use a gift to pressure or bother anyone.

Stars

A named star is a small shape of your choosing, with your pet's name, in the night sky over the place where the memorial stands, here on Bridgeside. It is a name in this place, and not an official name for a real star. It is not recorded anywhere else.

The ending film

An ending film is about a minute of a memorial's photos and words, put together on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to make it. You can watch all of it before you pay. If it does not finish, nothing is charged.

Saving it costs 1,000 credits, once for each memorial. After that, the memorial's owner can make and save its film again at no charge. The film you save is a file on your device, and we keep no copy of it, so please keep it safe. A film given as a gift lets the memorial's owner make and save one.

Giving

We give 10% of every credit purchase to animal shelters and rescues.

We work it out as 10% of what was paid before sales tax, less any refund, rounded up to the cent. For a $9.99 pack, that is $1.00. A purchase that is fully refunded, or disputed with a bank, gives nothing. We send what is owed every three months. Our Giving page shows the running total owed and given, straight from our records, and lists each donation with its receipt.

This giving comes from our share of each purchase. It is not a donation by you, and it is not tax-deductible for you.

How we treat each other

Our Community Guidelines are part of these terms. There is no place here for objectionable content or abuse of others. You also agree not to disrupt the service, get around its limits or a ban, or collect information from it in bulk.

When we step in

We may remove content, mute someone, ban an account or an IP address, or restrict access if we believe it breaks these terms, puts someone at risk, or is required by law. A number of reports alone will not get an account banned. Where we can, we will tell you what happened and why. If you think we made a mistake, write to support@bridgeside.pet, and we will look again.

A banned account cannot use its credits. Unused credits bought in the last 14 days can still be refunded, as described under Refunds.

We are one person. We read reports when they arrive, but we do not watch everything that is shared, and no one is here at all hours.

Removing your things

You can edit or remove your own memorials, and remove gatherings you created. A memorial you delete can be brought back for 30 days, and after that it is gone for good. You can delete your account and choose one of two options:

Either way, credits left on your account are closed out. Our Privacy page explains what deletion does not reach, such as backups for a limited time, and the records of purchases that we keep.

How long memorials last

Please read this part with care.

We want memorials to stay for as long as we can keep them, but we cannot promise forever. Bridgeside is run by one person and depends on a single server and that person's ability to keep it going. Nothing in its setting should be read as a promise of permanence. Nothing you buy here changes this.

Here is what we can commit to:

Accidents can still happen. A technical failure, an emergency, or something beyond our control could mean less warning, or could mean some content is lost. We keep backups for a limited time, but they do not make loss impossible. Please keep your own copy of any photo or words that matter to you.

If you believe something here infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent:

Jinhyuk Jang, dmca@bridgeside.pet

Your notice should include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature
  2. the work you believe was copied
  3. where the material is on Bridgeside, such as the memorial's name and a link, and for a recording, the label on the tape
  4. your contact details
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized
  6. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act for them

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent. Please include your signature, what was removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was a mistake, your name, address and phone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district where you live, or, if you live outside the United States, of any judicial district in which we may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who complained. We may restore the content 10 to 14 business days after receiving a valid counter-notice, unless the person who complained tells us they have gone to court.

We will close accounts, where appropriate, of people who repeatedly infringe.

If an intimate image of you, including a fake or altered one, appears here without your consent, please write to privacy@bridgeside.pet, or use "Ask for something to be taken down" under "Report a problem" in the site's menu. You do not need an account. Please include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature, such as your typed full name, or that of the person acting for you
  2. where the image is on Bridgeside, with enough detail for us to find it
  3. a short statement that you believe in good faith the image was shared without your consent, with anything that helps us see that
  4. how we can reach you

We will remove it and any identical copies we know of within 48 hours of a valid request.

Support, not treatment

Bridgeside is a place of remembrance. It is not counseling, medical care or a crisis service, and the people you meet here are not professionals. If you are struggling, please use the "Need support?" link, which is available on every screen.

Other people's work

Parts of Bridgeside, including some software, typefaces and readings, belong to other creators and are used under license or by permission. They are listed on our Credits page. These terms do not give you any rights to them, other than to use them as part of Bridgeside.

Please do not use our name or artwork in a way that suggests we endorse you.

Offered as it is

We work to keep Bridgeside safe and running, but we provide it "as is" and "as available", and we do not promise it will always be available, free of errors, or free of hurtful content from others. What other people post is their own, and it does not reflect our views.

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, or for the loss of content. Nothing here limits rights that the law does not let us limit, including your rights as a consumer where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will show a notice on the site before it takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, please stop using Bridgeside, and you can remove your memorials first.

We may also change or end parts of the service. The section on how long memorials last explains what we will do if we close.

Law and disputes

If something is wrong, please write to us first at support@bridgeside.pet. We would much rather fix it together.

These terms are governed by the laws of the US state where you live. You can bring a claim in the courts where you live, including small claims court. Nothing in these terms asks you to give up going to court, or to use arbitration.
