About Bridgeside

Bridgeside is a shared place on the web to hold a funeral for a pet and to remember them with others. It is for families in the United States, and for pets of every kind.

Why it exists

When a pet passes, there is often no funeral, no place to gather and no time set aside to say goodbye. Family may live in different states. Friends may not know what to say. Bridgeside was made so that a family can actually hold a simple funeral for their pet, together, with words that fit their faith or way of life, or with no religion at all. It is never too late: people whose pet passed long ago can hold one now.

Everyone comes in as a small avatar in a quiet place at dusk. Each pet has a memorial stone, and anyone can light a candle, leave a flower or write in its guestbook.

Who runs it

Bridgeside is run by one person, Jinhyuk Jang, a sole proprietor in South Korea, who is also responsible for privacy here. It is built for the United States: it is in American English, its customs and helplines are American, and memorials, photos and accounts are stored in the United States.

How it is paid for

Holding a funeral, making a memorial and visiting are free. Credits are for optional extras, such as a tree or a bench beside a stone, and nobody needs them. There are no ads, and we do not sell anyone's information. We give 10% of every credit purchase to animal shelters and rescues, and list each donation on the Giving page with its receipt.

How it keeps people safe

• Private by default where it matters. A memorial made without an account is private and deleted after 24 hours. Your email address and your answer about faith are never shown to anyone.
• Kindness is a rule. The Community Guidelines say what does not belong here. Anyone can report a person, a message or a memorial, and we act on reports.
• Younger people are protected. People aged 13 to 17 have a safer, smaller set of features, without public chat or gatherings, and no one under 13 can enter.
• Help is always one tap away. "Need support?" is on every screen, with the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, the Crisis Text Line and pet loss helplines. Bridgeside is a place of remembrance, not a crisis service.
• Search engines only where you choose. Each memorial has a page you can share. Search engines are told not to list it unless its owner turns that on.
